The results of the Mens Seniors open are now available below. Congratulations to the winners M Jones and D McMurray with an excellent score of 47 points and thank you to everyone who supported the event, we hope the rain didn’t dampen your spirits..
“The course is brilliant, the fairways are undulating with a lot of variation hole to hole, a lot of elevation to navigate, sloping fairways, raised greens, bling tee shots etc. It really is a very fun course to play. One stand out feature of Whitley Bay has to be the greens, they were in excellent condition despite some recent downpours. The fairways are on the whole fairly forgiving, but tight OB, a winding ravine comes into play on many holes and with the course sitting so close to the coast you are often battling against the brisk winds coming in from the North Sea.” Read the full review by clicking on the link below:
Another great week of progress on the course despite a number of challenges.
Unfortunately our rough management plan has stalled a little due to a technical problem with the mower, and we’re awaiting new parts to get this going again, on top of this our normal rough mower has also broken down due to a hydraulic leak. Both machines will be operational next week 💪🏽
We are also feeling the impact of team holidays, and you may also be aware that we recently lost a member of the team. However, we have drafted in additional help and the rest of the team are working overtime to make sure the course doesn’t suffer.
It would be a massive help if members could help us especially with keeping the bunkers in great shape by using the rakes after playing from them. Pushing sand away from yourself and not raking the smoothed part then leaving the rake in the middle of the bunker 🔥
For members that have not seen the email, we are hosting a fairway divot afternoon on the 24th of August at 4pm. This will be a great help to the team and the course, we look forward to seeing people come along.
The Greens Team
You’ll have to be up with the larks (and our greens team) to catch a sunrise as spectacular as this one over WBGC.
The 8th bridge has now been repaired and is ready for use again. The old timber had become rotted in places making the bridge unsafe to cross, all timber has now been renewed.
To keep everyone updated, the 5th/15th bridge that crosses the dene is closed until further notice. A structural engineer is coming out next week to asses the condition, action will then be taken to make the bridge safe again.
Thank you for your support and patience.
