A week of outstanding achievements for WBGC!

It has been a week of fantastic achievements for our teams and players here at Whitley Bay Golf Club!

On Thursday afternoon, our Seniors Team secured a 12/0 victory at home against Hexham and success continued with our Men’s Team who claimed a 10/2 win against Arcot that evening.

Congratulations to Nigel and Austin Robinson who won 3 and 2 in the Daily Mail Foursomes and have now qualified for round 4!

Away from home, our Lady Captain Helen Atkinson played in the Northumberland County Veteran Ladies Golf Association Bronze Meeting at City of Newcastle and won the Hardy Stafford Trophy for best Gross score!

Thank you to all who represented our Club

Men’s Seniors Open Feedback

Men’s Seniors Open 5th May 2022

As you might expect here at WBGC we are incredibly proud of our golf course and club, and it’s an amazing feeling when visitors from other courses take the time to give us feedback like they did after playing this week’s Men’s Seniors Open event.

The day ran incredibly smoothly from start to finish and that could not have happened without our dedicated colleagues and volunteers who give countless hours of their time to support the Club.

Thank you from everyone at WBGC.

Layla Levy, General Manager

Here’s what they said:

Brian Carver (5/5) – Lovely course in great condition, Friendly staff in the clubhouse. A well ran seniors open.

Anthony Dunn (5/5) – Really like this course, great condition and every hole is different. Just live too far away to play it more often.

Graham Collins (5/5) – Fantastic day playing in Seniors Open today. Great course, well organised comp and lovely staff and members. On our way back from Scotland having spent a small fortune on courses far inferior to WBGC.

Gavin Todd (4/5) – Very challenging and varied lay out, greens decent for time of year, very friendly on arrival and bar staff extremely polite and helpful, a credit to your club.

Garry Cross (5/5) – From start to finish it has been exceptional. The updating prior to attendance the welcome, hospitality and the course were faultless. First class and many thanks.

Peter McIntyre (5/5) – Seniors open 5 May 2022. Course in great condition and so well presented. Clubhouse also friendly and inviting. Food and drink v good and such good value. Shame our buggy broke down and we had to ‘rescued’. Overall well done!

Craig Blackie (5/5) – Course for the Seniors Comp was in excellent condition, we thoroughly our day. Food was very good & great value for money. Spot prize (nearest the hole) are good, also, last year a 50% voucher for return visit was given. Good for return business. We’ll be back next year.

Ted Cromar (4/5) – Overall the course was in very good condition, well-manicured, bunkers raked and the greens true (but a little slow). There were a few poor lies on the fairways but with the weather we have had over the last few months I think that is to be expected. Great day out – well done.

Russell Turnbull (5/5) – Played in Seniors on 5th May 2022. Extremely well organised especially the ladies giving the cards out and the lady helping to input scores after. Will be back again next year.

Keith Mckenzie (5/5) – Seniors Open 5th May: outstanding organisation with the ladies in control of the event. Very friendly welcome, including chocolate, and idiot proof guidance. The clubhouse facilities were great and course very good, considering the time of year. (Another month will allow for grass to thrive) In summary, a perfect day out much appreciated by a couple of Cumbrian Seniors. Thank you. Ps. A special note of thanks to Ally Hall, ex-Capt who made us feel so welcome.

Larry Page (5/5) – Course is very good, organisation of the competition excellent, four impressed golfers from Tynemouth GC, well done to all involved.
