Preferred lies are in effect from Saturday 18th Oct
What this means for golfers
Your ball can be lifted and cleaned: If your ball is on a closely-mown area (like the fairway), you can lift it, clean it, and place it back down without a penalty stroke.
You must mark the ball: Before lifting, you must mark the ball's original position.
You must place it correctly: The ball must be placed within six inches of its original spot, but not nearer the hole.
You can only use the rule once: You are only entitled to one preferred lie per ball, so if the ball moves due to a natural force after you place it, you cannot use the rule again.
Handicap scores are still valid: When preferred lies are in effect, you can still post acceptable scores for handicapping purposes, provided you meet all other requirements.
Follow in the footsteps of golfing legends: play on a course designed by 1912 Open Champion Ted Ray and graced by some of the greatest golfers in history, including Harry Vardon, James Braid, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Lee Trevino and Greg Norman.
