For those golfers who want a great golfing experience on one of North East of England’s finest courses, you’ve come to the right place.

The course is surrounded to the north and west by rolling fields with views to the east of the coast and St Mary’s lighthouse and visitor centre. It is widely regarded as one of the finest and most challenging courses in the region due in no small part to the undulating terrain, the Brier Dene that traverses a number of holes (requiring a strong nerve for the tee-shots), and the subtly contoured greens that have been recognised as being as good as any in the area.

At 6579 yards the course isn’t long but it is a great test of golf and has hosted many national and county events over the years, including a European Tour event in 1977.  There are five sets of tees: White, Yellow, Red, Orange and Blue. The White “Championship Course” has a World Golf Handicap Rating of 72.7 and a Slope Index of 135.

The course presented a superb challenge from tee to green, with strategically positioned bunkering, rough that requires an appropriate level of respect, and fairway mowing lines that make you think twice about positioning off the tee. The greens ran exceptionally well, and received the ball firmly and fairly.

I found the golf course extremely enjoyable with a really nice experience from start to finish. I found the staff very attentive & pleasant especially the manager Layla who could not do enough to enhance our day! Will highly recommend the experience to friends and 100% be back.

Thoroughly enjoyed the course , not having played it for several years. The new holes are excellent and the overall presentation of the course was excellent. Tee boxes good , fairways striped ( look great from the tee ! ) and sensibly wide , bunkers with sand and decent rakes are all positives in my book.

- Gary Clark I had an excellent visit to WBGC , nice to meet you as the starter , everyone was very friendly in the clubhouse and the green staff we met on the way round . After the round I had to leave straight away as I had a hospital appointment at ashington, but we did have… -
