Junior Open 2026
Friday 24th July saw Whitley Bay host their first Junior Open in a number of years. 35 junior golfers from around the area and as far as Malton and Billingham battled 40 mph gusts of wind to be crowned the Open Champion 2026. Despite the strong winds, all of the juniors had a great day and showed great determination to shoot some great scores.
Winning the Gross competition and crowned Junior Open Champion was Harry Hedley from City of Newcastle with an excellent round of 76, narrowly pipping Ben Miller from Walkworth by 1 shot.
In the Nett competition our own Lucas McNeillie shot an excellent round of 7 under his handicap 66 to come in ahead of Jake Chambers of Gosforth Golf Club who was having "the round of his life" and at one point was 10 under his handicap.
Winning the Longest Drive on the 2nd was Benji Davies from Beamish Park, whilst Joe Johnson also from Gosforth Golf Club was only 5 ft away from the pin in 13 to win that competition.
Many thanks to the everybody who helped on the day as spotters on the course and to Junior Liaison Officer, Paul Angel, Junior Team Manager, Andrew Carruthers, Margaret Waterson and Elaine Elliot.
Thank you also to Northern Ball Markers and Custom Planet for sponsoring the player's goody bags, they were most definitely a hit with all the juniors.
