Match 5 - Morpeth at Home
On Sunday 19 June our Junior team faced their strongest test yet while hosting double reigning champions Morpeth Golf Club. However, as has been the case all season they rose to the challenge to power home with a fantastic 10-2 victory. The first two matches were a battle of the county players with Sam Carruthers taking on fellow county player Callum Neil fresh from his 15th place in County Championships. In a tight match Sam came from behind to shoot 1 under on the back 9 to win 3&2. In match 2 Dan Atken played county captain and last seasons county junior champion Alan Young. However, Dan lead from the start to secure an excellent 2&1 victory with the steady golf we have come to rely on so much this season. Match 3 pitted Finley Armstrong against another of Morpeth's county players in development squad member Jack Stone. However, Finley did not let this phase him one bit and after racing to 5 up after 10 holes, he secured a 4&3 victory. In match 5 Jacob Forstorp took on the final county player in the Morpeth squad. Continuing his excellent unbeaten form this season, Jacob never looked in trouble while coming in with another 4&3 victory to go 4/4 this season. Match 5 saw Lewis Elcoat return to the team for the first time this season taking on the longest hitter in the Morpeth team. In his first full 18 holes of the season Lewis played some excellent golf to go 4 up before his putter ran cold and he was unlucky to lose on 18. In the final match of the season Ed Shaw was also looking to protect his unbeaten record. Despite having to give away 7 shots and being 3 down after 4 holes, Ed slowly pulled it back to take the victory on 17 after an excellent par on 16 put him 2 up with 2 to play.
It was also great to see Lucas McNeille step in to the squad as a reserve and put in the performance of the day winning 7&6. Hopefully the first of many victories to come.
Thanks as ever to the greenkeeping staff for the excellent condition of the course and to MMOTC for the lovley food at the end. With 2 games left to play we currently sit on 48 points, 6 points ahead of Hexham in 2nd place who have now played all their games and 12 points ahead of Morpeth and Close House who still have to play each other. This puts us in an excellent position to qualify for finals weekend at the end of August at Longhirst.
Match 4 - Close House at Home
On Sunday we hosted Close House as the Junior Team looked to build upon their unbeaten start to the season. Again our Juniors rose to the challenge and romped to a 12-0 victory. At the top of the order Sam Carruthers finished 3&1, with Vice-Captain Dan Aitken again putting in the performance of the day to win after 11 holes 8&7. Game 3 was the only game to last the distance with Theo Rayner battling back from being 4 down after 11 to winning 6 of the remaining 7 holes to win 2 Up. Jacob Forstorp continued his form from Silloth to win game 4 4&3 while Ed Shaw comprehensively won 5&4. In the final game Jack Burnett was able to step in at the last moment to play and won his game 6&5. This results leaves the Team 5 points clear of Hexham at the top of the table despite having played a game less.
Match 3 - Westerhope Away
Our junior team put on a dominant performance this weekend beating Westerhope 11-1 on their own turf to go top of the league. At the top of the order 3 birdies and a string of pars meant the only match to go the whole 18 ended in a tie for Sam Carruthers. However, the rest of the matches were over far quicker. Vice Captain Dan Aitken played some great golf to win 6&5. Theo Rayner kept his winning run going to win 5&4 and Jacob Forstorp picked up the win on 17 for a 3&1 victory. In the remaining two matches Ed Shaw took control of an up and down match to win 4&2 while Jack Burnett made his debut for the team and played excellent to win 4&3.
Shots of the day was shared by Jacob Forstorp whose 7 wood from the 1st fairway holed out before jumping out of the hole to leave a tap in birdie and Ed Shaw whose tee shot on par 3 13th trickled just passed the hole. It was also good to see Finley Armstrong joining the squad also.
Match 2 - Hexham at Home
It was a hard fought victory for the junior team in scorching sunshine on Sunday, coming out with a 7-5 win over Hexham. It was a match of two halves with Sam Carruthers and Dan Aitkin losing at the top end and Max Elliot securing the first point from the opening 3 games with a half. However for the second week in a row the team came back to claim victory. George Potter won 3&2 before co-captain Johnny Peacock secured a 5&3 victory despite giving 16 shots away. With Hexham only able to field 5 players the 2 extra points clinched victory for the juniors. After 2 games they sit only 3 points behind the current leaders and defending champions Morpeth.
Match 1 - Tynemouth at Home
In a closely fought match Whitely Bay came out on top n “EL Coastico” vs Tynemouth 8-4. With 3 of our younger juniors making their debuts for the team it was a much changed team with the impact of exams reducing the number of players available. Despite this the juniors put on a display that more experienced players would have been proud of. At the top of the order Sam Carruthers overcame giving away 10 shots to finish with birdies on 17 and 18 to tie, while Dan Aitkin also battled hard to win the 18th to come back and tie for a share of the points. George Potter could not get any luck all day with bunkers being his nemesis on the way to a defeat to a player who played under his handicap.
However, the bulk of the points came from the debutants. Jacob Forstop closed out a 2&1 victory on the 17th showing some excellent touch around the greens all afternoon while Theo Rainer backed up a solid front 9 by playing some excellent golf on the back 9 for a 2 up victory. Finally, performance of the day was Ed Shaw who despite having to give away 13 shots won 4&3 after winning the first 5 holes and unfortunately loosing the 9th after chipping in for birdie to a nett hole in one.

Millennium Trophy - Monday 20 July
Congratulations to Ed Shaw who won the Millennium Trophy on Monday which doubled up as Deon's captains week competition. Ed beat Lucas McNeillie by 1 shot with Jacob Forstorp coming 3rd another shot behind. It was great to see Daniel Pearce playing in his first competition too, hopefully he enjoyed himself.

Ping Junior Tour - Bradford
On Sunday 12 July Finley Armstrong competed in the latest leg of the Ping Junior Tour at Bradford Golf Club. A solid round of 82 saw him finish 4th in the u15 gross competition and 9th in the nett. Well done Finley!
Northumberland County U18's vs Lancashire
On Monday 6 July, Northumberland County U18's played Lancashire in a closely fought contest. Having lost the morning foresomes 3.5 to 1.5 Lancashire came back in the afternoon singles to sneak victory 8 points to 7. Sam Carruthers represented WBGC and won his foresomes 1 Up before winning his singles 3&1.
Race to Woodhall Spa
Having qualified to represent WBGC in the Race to Woodhall Spa, Ed Shaw played Eaglescliffe Golf Club on Sunday 5 June. On a tough day for Ed he managed to score 30 points playing alongside the eventual winner of the event from Barnard Castle. Well done Ed!
Ping Junior Golf Tour - Silloth on Solway
On Saturday 20 June 4 of our Juniors were at Silloth on Solway Golf Club for the Ping Junior Tour Major Competition. In tricky winds on a notoriously difficult course, currently ranked 21 in England our juniors did not disappoint. In the u15 category Jocob Forstorp played a fantastic round to shoot 9 over to finish 3rd in the gross competition having been leading for much of the round. This score of 2 under his handicap meant he won the nett competition by 2 shots. Finlay Armstrong also finished well in 6th position in the gross with a round of 92 with Lucas McNeille finishing in 18th.
In the U21 category, playing from the back tees, Sam Carruthers lead from the start to win the gross competition by 3 shots with a round of 6 over 78 in an incredibly strong field. In doing so also won the nett competition to take a clean sweep. By winning the gross competition Sam has also qualified for the 2027 Champion of Champions World Championships to be played at the Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland against the champions from Junior Tours around the world.
Ping Junior Golf Tour - Leeds Golf Centre
5 of our juniors teed it up at Leeds Golf Centre on Sunday 7 June for the latest leg of the Ping Junior Tour.
In the u15 Gross competition Theo Rayner came and excellent 3rd with a round of 79. Jack Burnett did fantastic with a round of 82 (4 under handicap) to finish 6th, closely followed by Finley Armstrong in 9th (84). Jacob Forstorp came in 13th (88) with Lucas McNeillie finishing 16th (90). It’s great to see some of our youngsters finishing so highly on their first season.
In the nett competition Jack was just pipped for the win on count back too!
Ping Junior Golf Tour - Brancepeth Castle
We had 5 juniors playing on the latest leg of the Ping Junior Tour at Brancepeth Castle on Friday 29 May. The course was playing well but scoring was tricky due to the gusting wind swirling around.
In the U15 age group Lucas McNeillie was our best placed junior coming 10th gross and an excellent 4th nett with him still in with a chance of winning coming down 18. Finlay Armstrong was 12th (11th nett) with Jack Burnett 17th (15th nett) and Ed Shaw was 21st (24th nett).
In the u21 category Sam Carruthers came out on top in the gross competition winning by 3 shots (3rd in the nett completion).
Northumberland County U18's vs Yorkshire
Sam Carruthers made his county debut on Tuesday 26 May at Garforth Golf Club against an incredibly strong Yorkshire u18 Team including the European Junior Open Champion.
Faldo Futures Series Regional Finals - Martin Hall
Cole Hall, Ed Shaw and Sienna Wildsmith Pattison all played in the regional finals of the Faldo Futures Series. Ed came second and has now qualified for the national finals at the Belfrey for the second year running. Well done Ed!
Alnmouth Village Junior Open
Theo Rayner kicked off the season by winning the Alnmouth Village Junior Open with a score of 39 points. Great result Theo, well done.
