Out of Bounds (OOB)
Out of Bounds is defined by:
• boundary fences, or
• white posts, with the following exceptions:
a) 1st — defined by a burnt line
b) 3rd — defined as the cutaway on the edge of the course below the normal level of the course
c) 12th — defined as the cutaway on the edge of the course below the normal level of the course
The white posts on the 1st, 3rd and 12th are visual guides to the OOB as defined above.
White posts must not be moved or removed.
Red Penalty Areas
• 2nd The ditch on the left by definition as a ditch, is a Red Penalty Area. The Red Penalty Area ditch extends to the boundary fence.
The R & A suggests that all areas designed to hold water (ditches) do not have to be identified by red posts.
• All bridges are within Red Penalty Areas.
• All areas designed to hold water (ditches) are Red Penalty Areas by default, unless marked otherwise.
• The edge of a Red Penalty Area is defined by where the ground falls below the level of the general area.
• If a player's ball has not been found, but it is known or virtually certain (95%) that the ball came to rest in a Red Penalty Area, the player may take Red Penalty Relief (Rule 17.1d or 17.2).
• The Red Penalty Areas at the rear of the 4th and 14th greens have a further penalty relief option, identified as Drop Zones (DZ).
Abnormal Course Conditions, including Immovable Obstructions (Rule 16)
Free relief is allowed, but not limited to, the following areas:
• All artificial roads, paths, sprinkler heads and drain covers within the course.
• The artificial path to the right-hand side of the 9th hole has a further relief option, an identified Drop Zone, to the right of the beginning of the path.
• All types of course furniture, shelters and man-made structures, including signage.
• The practice mat at the west end of the practice fairway.
Immovable Obstructions Close to Putting Greens
Model Local Rule F-5 has been adopted. If a ball lies in the General Area, relief is allowed when both the ball and the obstruction lie in an area cut to fairway height or less. The obstruction (e.g. a sprinkler head) must be:
• within two club-lengths of the putting green;
• on the player's line of play; and
• the ball must be within two club-lengths of the obstruction.
Ground Under Repair (GUR)
Areas encircled with white painted lines are Ground Under Repair. The player may take relief (Rule 16.1a).
No Play Zones
Relief must be taken from the following areas (Rule 16.1f):
• The bunker and green on the practice area.
• The practice putting green adjacent to the 1st tee.
• Newly planted trees and shrubs, defined by stakes, wraps, tubes or artificial supports.
• Areas encircled with blue rope attached to poles or stakes.
Areas partly identified with blue rope attached to poles or stakes (not fully encircled) are general areas. Play your ball as it lies. If you can, please avoid moving through these areas.
Movable Obstructions
The direction line indicator posts and distance marker posts.
Pace of Play
Players are expected to play without delay and to comply with the pace of play markers around the course.
Adjacent Property
Players must not trespass on farmland to retrieve golf balls.
Temporary Local Rule
The drainage lines on the 1st, 4th, 6th/7th (near the path), 8th and 10th holes are to be regarded as Ground Under Repair (GUR). The player may take relief (Rule 16.1a).
